Coffee buddies

The hummers had coffee with me this morning. The pix aren't very clear because they were taken through my window. I'll try to get better shots later...
I hung a feeder outside the window of  the room I use for an office, so when I sit here at the computer, I can watch them.... they're only a foot away.  It's pretty cool.

They go through one of these feeders a day.  The different species are starting to show up now.  It's kind of cool to live in a bird migration path.  Fun to see what's on your property each day.  I've never seen so much color and variety.  ...and lots of 'sword' fighting over the territory.  hahaha.

Owls

I woke to the hoot of an owl...
at first it was rhythmic
steady
regular, like a heartbeat.

Then, as the earth began to waken to dawn's light
the cries intensified.

Where are you???
Where are you.
come
home

Come home, I need you.

faster now
more syllables.

Then...
skittering on the roof.

Home.

Now they're together.
Safe
Warm

Together.

BC

I found this little guy at my front door.  He must have crashed.
He's a black-chinned hummingbird.  So I named him BC.
He was pretty dehydrated and overheated.  I picked
him up and put him in a critter cage to help him rest...
and found some shade for a drink.

Yummmmyyy... he was thirsty.

Cute little guy, huh?
Dr. Wrexie isn't thinkin' he's feelin' too good though.

I put him in a planter that was cool...hoping he'd recover...
and I'd have a happy story to share.

...but he just laid down... and went to sleep.

RIP BC

More Hummers... hmmmmmm

These are some hummers that were here last summer.

I've never seen a nest in person... but awwwww.
They're so little!
I can't imagine how tiny a newly hatched bird is!

These guys liked to hang out on the yucca stems.
From far away you can't tell them apart from the pods.
I was amazed they actually ever stop moving.

Humming Bird

The early morning sun cast a shadow of the feeder...
