Sheriff's Report: Things you probably don't read in your papers

3:00 PM  PD advised of an injured female illegal immigrant, 25 years of age, who was stranded at the top of ****** Canyon and ******* Trail.  Search and Rescue sent 8 personnel to assist in the rescue which they completed at approximately 8:00 pm.  The woman suffered cuts and bruises as well as a possible broken ankle.
(I don't even want to comment... the illegal problem is so out of control)

4:14 PM A male subject fell approximately 15 feet down the *** Canyon Waterfall. He was airlifted to Tucson for evaluation.
(I was just up there and can see why over 80 deaths have occurred.  Guess no one reads the danger signs or notices the fence put there to keep people out of the falls area...)

Now the funny ones...
5:58 AM PR adv someone stole parts and wires to his well leaving him with no water.
(I'm guessing he's on a well-share and didn't pay his dues)

9:12 AM PR states the subject that is fixing the roadway is stealing dirt...
(dirty thief)

2:18 PM about 4 cows in rd fence is down
(bovine breakout)

4:09 PM PR states she has a rattle snake on her back porch.
(guess she doesn't have a shovel...or didn't want to mess up her porch with a shotgun)

5:10 PM PR req officer contact her ref information on what she can do about a male...
(welll, ummm....)

7:25 PM PR adv his next door neighbor was riding his dirt bike up and down the road
(so it wasn't a dirt road, or what?)

7:44 PM PR states there is a cow in the road on ghost town trl road. He states he isn't...
(didn't know cows could talk...)

8:07 AM PR states a large stray brown dog attacked his chickens
(just tryin to eat healthy...)

11:26 AM PR adv an RV was taken from this property and a barn was taken....
(a barn?)
12:07 PM PR states there are two head of cattle out in the roadway
(better than 2 heads...)

1:29 PM PR called to advised that****** ******* has been drinking....
(oh geeze, again?)

1:39 PM PR advising there are 3 bulls on ******* Rd just south of the bridge that keep...
(that keep what? BS-ing?)

4:03 PM PR states that there is that there is a bunch of cattle in the rd on the bend
(sounds like a kids memory song.. "there's a cow on the road in the bend by the fork under the bridge..chewing it's cud...)

4:53 PM PR states that she is out with a horse at the given address. Req assistance
(maybe she shouldn't be going out with horses??
)
6:35 PM PR states that there is a calf on the rd
(I hope it's a small cow and not a leg...)

1:04 AM PR states his mother has "lost her mind"
(he may have been the cause.. darn kids)

3:48 AM PR states his daugther's boyfriend, Casper, will not leave the premises...
(hmm..maybe he's a ghost...)

5:51 AM Report of two horses in the road
(they're probably protesting... they want open range like the cattle have)

11:10 AM PR adv of subject speeding in the area in an off road racing dune bugging type
(racing is the key word here... oh my...they might be having fun)

5:48 PM adv cow on Purdy lane at the second culvert
(maybe it was just a "purdy" cow?)

6:45AM Black and white pig and beagle walking down the road
(I wish there was a picture of this one...)

7:01 PM PR states (his neighbor) was threatening to kill his rooster
(I can relate...actually, it's what's for dinner..)

10:35 PM Intoxicated person refusing to be seen at the hospital and now is hanging...
I'll leave you "hanging" with that...

I was reading these laughing... but then I got pulled over this week by the Sheriff's Dept and was hoping I didn't make the paper:

CA plates on my rental car.  Speeding a wee bit...  pass a sheriff.... a hasty u-turn---pretty lights---

Smiling jolly cop asks, "Do you know how fast you were going?"  I said "no", but it is a rental car. (meaning I'm not used to it...)

He said to my son, (who is in the back seat with his friend because THEY missed the bus and I had to go get them from work),  "Is she your mom?"

(son claims me...and doesn't turn me in as a kidnapper from CA or something...friend sitting next to him just tries to hold back laughter...)

Then he looks at me and says, "So rental cars don't have speedometers?"  (kids are snorting out their noses)

I had to laugh too...

He turned to the boys and said with a big shiteatin grin,  "Have fun giving your mom a hard time over this later... just do it respectfully, boys."  (gee thanks mr sheriff)

"Ma'am, is there anything I need to know about before I run your liscense?  Any recent tickets?"

(son's snorting again...)

Me:  "Uhhh... well actually, I have one on there for speeding... but I did pay it."

*BIG SMILE*  "So, you've had your ticket for the year???"

.... and he goes back to his car only to return with a state-trooper face.

"Ma'am?  Do you have a current insurance card?"

oh crap...

"Current?  You like the current ones, eh?"  ..."Well, actually, YES I do, I have it right here."

I hand him my insurance card.

He becomes jolly-sheriff again and tells me they are just trying to slow people down now that school has started.

I can't help but mention the cause of my trip being that these snorting boys in the back seat missed the bus... but I will learn how to use the cruise-control on my rental and slow it down...

He laughed and told me to have a nice day.. and smiled a "have-fun-with-it-boys" smile to the kids.

Why do they pick on me??

NO SOLICITING

This "college student" came to my house soliciting educational books.  I meet all strangers at the door with Mr. Springfield, Mr. Beretta or a relative ;)..  He saw me lock 'n load through the window... and laughed.

Arrogant SOB.  I answered the door and told him to leave.  He wouldn't.  He asked me if I was (son's name)'s mom.  Shocked me.  I asked him where he got his information  and if he had a permit from the county to sell door-to-door.  He rattled off the law of my county in broken Russian (some accent I couldn't figure out).

I told him I didn't allow soliciting on my property or trespassing and he needed to leave.  He said he had a permit.  I told him to save it for the sheriff, he's on his way.  He shoved a shiny brochure in my face.   I shut the door in his.

Pissed him off.  He did some weird antics with his hands.  My son told him in teenage verbiage to LEAVE.

It was raining... a good monsoon rain.  He went to his out-of-state car.  Sat there... honked his horn several times, just being a jerk.  ...20 min later, no sheriff. (We have a large county and the sheriff are spread pretty thin.)

He got out of his car, heading for the house again.  I told him to get back in his car and wait because the sheriff wanted to talk to him...and not come another step closer.  He drove to the end of my street and waited.

I called the sheriff again.  They sent Border Patrol to check him out.

5 BP vehicles and twice as many agents show up.

...Sheriff is close behind and when he arrives Mr. Arrogant tells him a bunch of lies... BP and sheriff believed ME.  The guy was sketchy at best.

They ran him... nothing.  Complaints all over the county, but nothing solid.
BP ran his visas.

Nothing again.  clean.

I asked if he was a student.  NO
How many visa's?  One expiring, another good to let him stay.
Where's he from?  Czech Republic.

How did he know my kids name?  called him by his nickname even?  HOW?

They all took turns questioning him.  The younger agents were getting into it...  Wanted him on anything.  None of us trusted him.  Too weird. No one liked that he knew my kids name...

Turns out he had a map and a list with way too much information.  Knew teachers, students, bus routes... what time the kids got home.

But he was clean.  Couldn't get him on anything.  Sheriff said it happens more than you know.
So the deputy told him if he ever came back on my property he would be arrested.

He left.  But not before racing his POS car down my driveway and nearly ramming a BP truck parked in my driveway.... on purpose.  Pissed of the agent so they chased him awhile.

20 minutes later he shows up a my friends house.  Her husband got rid of him, but he did 50mph down his street too.

What a week.

This Week's Highlights

High speed chase down my dead-end dirt road (cop neighbor said over 80mph).  BP lost.  Illegals bailed and ran.  They're like desert rats the way they can scramble.  Still on the loose...  CBP friend said incident at his house too.
They found the illegal's Escalade later on down the main road...loaded down with pot.  It was being towed in to add to Uncle Sam's car lot.

Sick kid at home.

Lightening storms.

Snake in the yard (just a gopher snake though, with pretty round eyes).  He gets to live in the garden.

Just learned my kid has a rattler skin in his friend's freezer.  (Don't even ask...)

Scorpion in the house. Windex won.  damn things...

(Airsoft bb's all over the floor, ..ouch.)

Gun range closed due to gnats.  I'm serious.
Apparently they can fly off with firearms and start air raids. LOL
...I never thought a gnat could be more dangerous than using reloads.  They OK'd reloads on the range this week, but not gnats.  I guess gnats make people crazy enough to shoot at each other...

How can a bug so small be such a menace?

Today, after the sun came up:

I'm off work to care for my son... and do a million other things.  Made it a few miles down the road... then:

Pretty lights for me this morning.  Speeding. 50 in a 35... he didn't say exactly how many years I'd do.  He just came up to my window, saw me on the phone and said,
"Do you know why I stopped you?"

I nodded yes, but I couldn't hang up the phone.  Just handed him my license, ins, registration and CCW I had ready for him and kept talking.

The Sheriff didn't press me or get upset.  He just stood, in a good cop-like and well-trained sideways stance....listening to my conversation... tuned to body language, holding my information in his hand.  I looked up at him mouthing "s o r r y"... but kept listening intently to my caller and ignoring him.

I've noticed cops are very sensitive to body language...tends to keep 'em alive, I'm sure.  In this case, he seemed to 'get' what was going on.  He remained patient and raised his hand in a gesture to say, "It's OK"  Then he went to his car.

I couldn't hang up.   It was my son's doctor.  You don't wait all morning for a call back, then hang up.  I had no laters left in the day anyway.  Out of laters.

The Sheriff was kind...compassionate...and huge. like a tree.
He came back to the window of my car and saw I was on the verge of something worse than speeding.
He waited patiently.
...I looked up at him apologizing again, in a way I couldn't help but look.

Three times he tolerated my ohpleasehavemercy glances..  (qualified him to hero status)

(we never have enough sheriff on duty to cover the county the size of ours.. he didn't have time for this, of that, I'm sure. Yet, he nodded kindly, like an Arizona Ranger might and let me keep talking on my phone)

I finally hung up with my caller.    Spent.

Spent, but still having to face a cop, and an interview, and other vitals to my life before the sun would set.... not having a clue how it would all end.

It took all I had to translate foreign doctor language into something meaningful in the presence of the oak tree and pretty lights and looming life-sustaining interview minutes away.

He gave me back my license... with no pink or yellow papers involved and said,
"Be careful ma'am, sounds like a rough day ...watch your speed and be safe".
"Ma'am?"  ..."be safe".

"I will," I nodded.  "I will."   "Thank you,  ...for caring."

...he walked away with a compassionate smile and wave, the kind that have to be sincere to be seen coming from an armed oak tree....giving me hope in humanity once again.  Hope hasn't been in my hood for awhile now...

...if I ever see him around again, I'll tell him how he saved me that day.  I had no energy for a life-sustaining interview, let alone a run in with an irritable cop.  I was so thankful.
I had left early enough to include that little event, and made the bank to save my future life, and get to the job interview early, which my interviewer seemed to appreciate:

We talked 5 minutes.   But no interview.

5 minutes more.

Still no interview.

(Can't read his expressions.  Intimidating.  Busy.)

Just keep it going, Wrexie.  Life depends on it.  Smile. Talk. Don't let him intimidate you.  Be confident.  Think positive ++++. You can do this...

He called in his secretary and told her to cancel the next 4 interviews and hired me on the spot.  Told me the pay... blahblahblah.  Said, "I don't need letters from your boss or to waste time interviewing you.  You're hired. When can you start?  ...oh, and a raise in 90 days."

Once I got my jaw off the floor, I managed a "thank you"... and a hand shake.

I've had 5 jobs since the school had to let me go due to no funding.  I think this one will keep us alive.  Finally.   But what a strange day.  and a crazyhard week...

Doctor visit stuff is pending... but my little dude is doing better.  I know he'll be ok...because nothing will ever stop me from making sure he's always ok.

....But the day's not over yet:

Number one son sends a dreaded text:

"Mom... if you hear anything on the news... I'm OK."

WHAT? ... I'm driving again. Sh**

Next msg... "chemical plant's gonna blow up."

Wrexie throws some dust...
...pulls over.

WHERE ARE YOU?  ARE YOU OK?

several 'torture mom minutes' later...

"Oh, yeah.  I'm fine.  We're in the building across the street. I can't see the sky through the smoke though. ..and I smell like oil.  It's bad."

HOW are you fine, then?

"If it blows up, they'll send us home... but it looks like they were able to stop the explosion.
Love you mom."

and I wonder why I startle and jump when a turtle farts.

Hope was bleak this morning... I dreaded this day for even more reasons than I wrote about...  the past several weeks have been a hell of a ride... but as I watch the sun set, I think I just might feel safe enough to hope it just might...possibly... be ok again.  one day.

the end of today. Yay.

Fallen hero.. on the border, right here at home.

Maybe you read about it in your local paper.
BP agent gunned down last Tues.
Only 40 years old. Specialy trained: BORTAC SWAT.
He only had 3 years in with BP, but was a cop 8....and a Marine.
Very experienced, yet...
gunned down by bajadores (bandits) who were lying in wait to
rob or take advantage of illegal border crossers.

Most bajadores are Mexican citizens... but it's highly suspected some are Americans.
As far as I'm concerned, those boycotting AZ are in the same catagory.

What do you think?  Do you agree with the statment
Napolitano made in April
that our borders as secure now as they have ever been?

Will THIS change anything?
It should change everything.
But as our ranchers say "..don't know that it will."
