More Hummers... hmmmmmm

These are some hummers that were here last summer.

I've never seen a nest in person... but awwwww.
They're so little!
I can't imagine how tiny a newly hatched bird is!

These guys liked to hang out on the yucca stems.
From far away you can't tell them apart from the pods.
I was amazed they actually ever stop moving.

I heard it takes a dozen humming bird eggs to make an omlet.

There is a place on the lake that we like to pull into and has a bunch of hummingbirds. They are amazing to watch.

RD... it would be 'hummlet'. :) Would you like a shotglass of OJ with that sir?

CP- they're little fighter jet birdies. It's like watchin' a mini airshow.

I love watchin them but I can't seem to get them to come to my feeders any more.

Must be all the traffic from the new kids in the neighbor hood.

Someone told me that if there is a good supply of nectar from the flowers, they don't use the feeders much... but they remember where they are, and come back every year.

I live in one of their migratory patterns, but they still prefer thistles over my feeders sometimes.

RD, I DO wonder that! Poor little birdies. It must be like the East Australian Current fish hitch a ride on. What a ride though!

Christie- hummers have terrified me more than once. They're like a tiny little figher jet that comes from nowhere. And I'm actually afraid to be out on the porch when they're fighting. yikes!

Don't worry about being on the porch when they are in an air battle because they know exactly where you are.
Oh and when I've gone outside when the "Wee Jets" are zooming about they usually brake off to see just what the huge battle-ship is going to be doing...changing the sugar water or just passin through.

Miss Em...Heehee
they do know where I am! You ever had one hoover just right in front of your face? uh. They're gone before you blink, but UH!
Guess that means this "battleship" is just too slow with the sugar water.

Wrexie...YES. It was when I first started to feed them.
I lived in a 2nd story apt. The "Wee Jet" came within 3 inches of my nose when I was taking the feeder down. I stated to him to give me a minute and he could have the feeder back after I refilled it. The "Wee-Jet" flew up to a teeny-weeny tree branch across the parking lot and watched me carry it in and as I was carring the refilled feeder to the hanger he flew up and sat on the opposite side and I replaced it on the hanger.
Cool, huh?
